Golden Gate Ruth Part Two! On the heels of our April 2022 sale, an incredible follow-up is available with the offered 1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy #147 Babe Ruth. For several decades our consignor toted their father’s vintage baseball card collection around the country. Having been raised in San Francisco during the 1910s-1920s, the original owner collected several California produced cards including Obaks, Monos, Pacific Coast Biscuits, Zeenuts and Collins-McCarthy singles. Over the past century a hoard of these cards has rested in a humble shoebox amidst other family heirlooms. In January 2022, while our consignor was searching through long forgotten belongings, the shoebox was (re) discovered and Huggins & Scott Auctions was contacted.
Graded Poor 1 by PSA. Only 17 total copies of the offered 1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy #147 Babe Ruth have been judged by the authenticator. In our considered opinion, this example is the finest Ruth available from "The Golden Gate Find." Despite sharing the technical grade with the April 2022 version, this "Bambino" displays moderate, but not severe creasing. There are no pin holes or tape and the corners/edges showcase moderate, but not extensive wear. Two patches of reverse paper loss does not seriously impact this cardboard classic's overall eye appeal. As was stated in April, become only the second to own this Ruthian relic!
