Description

Astroturf, indoor baseball and headache-inducing uniforms are just a few of the “novelties” the Houston Astros brought to baseball. These (4) game-worn caps span as many different styles employed by the club. Includes: 1962-1964 Colt .45s “Tim McAuliffe” cap; 1971-1982 Astros “New Era” cap; 1980-1993 Astros “New Era” cap; 1994-1999 Astros “New Era 50/50” cap. More on our website.

1962-1964 Houston Colt .45s a clue wool accessory with “.45s” embroidered to the front center in orange, with an orange cap atop the six-point crown suspension. The interior sweatband is home to a partially detached “Tim McAuliffe” label (no size indicator is present). The cap shows excessive wear with (2) cracks on the bill.

1971-1982 Houston Astros an orange cap with a white “H” embroidered over a blue embroidered five-point star at the front center. The interior sweatband is home to a “New Era” label and size “7-3/8” tag (as well as remnants of an MLB silhouette logo tag, suggesting wear as a home cap only at the latter portion of the referenced run). The cap shows heavy wear with perspiration-induced soiling about the sweatband.

1980-1993 Houston Astros a blue wool cap with a white “H” embroidered over a blue embroidered five-point star at the front center. The interior sweatband is home to a “New Era” label and size “7-3/8” tag (as well as remnants of what was likely an MLB silhouette logo tag, suggesting post-1981 wear). On the bill’s underside, a handwritten notation of “9” suggests wear by Joe Pittman, Eric Bullock, Troy Afenir or Alex Trevino. Moderate wear is evident with perspiration-induced soiling about the sweatband.

1994-1999 Houston Astros a blue wool accessory with a gold-on-white star-themed logo embroidered to the front center, with a gold-colored button atop the six-point crown suspension. The interior sweatband is home to a “New Era 50/50” label and a size “7-1/4” tag. On the bill’s underside, a handwritten notation of “22” suggests possible wear by either Mike Simms, Dave Magadan, Andujar Cedeno, Anthony Young, Thomas Howard, Pete Incaviglia or Lance Berkman. Moderate wear is evident.
