While excelling under titles of aviator, aerospace engineer, film maker and business magnate (to name just a few), financial icon Howard Hughes is defined perhaps even more by his wealth and eccentric behavior. Retained from one of his countless bold endeavors, these (2) items recall the genius of a man who knew no limits. Accompanying Hughes on his 1938 flight around the world (in a record 91 hours), these artifacts include: American Flag measuring 12 x 8-1/4”, the thin fabric piece bears 48 stars; Postmarked Envelope a standard size (9-1/2 x 4-1/8”) envelope with a vintage “Flown Around The World” stamping citing 14,672 miles. There are (4) postage stamps and stampings of destinations including Paris, France; Moscow, U.S.S.R.; OMSK U.S.S.R.; Yakutsk; Fairbanks, Alaska; Minneapolis; and New York, N.Y. LOA from John Reznikoff, University Archives. This item has a reserve (estimated value $1000-$2500).
