In an unprecedented voyage to where no man had ever dared to venture, American astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins manned the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Offered is a significant remnant of that historic journey. Adhered to a sheet of Aldrin’s personal stationery, a fleck of gold-colored Kapton Foil was taken from the famed spacecraft. Critical in reflecting the sun’s intense heat, this foil was attached to the ship’s outside skin. Most of the foil burned off during the ship’s fiery 25,000 mph descent into the Earth’s atmosphere, with this being part of the small portion that survived. Attesting to the piece’s authenticity, Aldrin has signed the page in black fiber tip (“9” strength). Accompanying is a 10-1/2 x 13” wooden plaque commemorating the event. LOA from John Reznifoff, University Archives. This item has a reserve (estimated value $400-$1000)
